A Little About Cannabinoids, Terpenes,  Isolate & Full Spectrum

What are Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids are naturally occurring compounds found in the Cannabis & Hemp Sativa plant.

The human body contains an endocannabinoid receptor system (ECS), the internal system that helps achieve homeostasis and maintain a healthy biological balance.

The ECS exists and is active in your body even if you don’t use cannabis.

Cannabinoid Receptor 1 (CB1) is associated with psychoactive, neuromodulatory, and analgesic effects due to its activation by a lipid called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CB1 is mostly expressed in the brain, adipocytes (fat cells), hepatocytes (liver cells), and musculoskeletal tissues.

Cannabinoid Receptor 2 (CB2) is associated with anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects but no psychoactive effects. CB2 is expressed in body cells controlling immune function and (potentially) the central nervous system (CNS). Additionally, research suggests that secondary metabolites from phytonutrients in plant-based foods enhance the activity of CB2 receptors and confer healthy inflammatory responses.

CBG Benefits

Unlike CBD, which has a relatively low affinity for cannabinoid receptors and acts mostly through indirect interactions with the endocannabinoid system, CBG is thought to elicit its therapeutic effects directly though interaction with the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors in the brain.

The psychoactive cannabinoid THC also produces its psychoactive effects though interactions with these receptors; CBG has been observed to work as a buffer to THC’s psychoactivity and can even alleviate the feelings of paranoia that sometimes come with consumption of high levels of THC.

CBD Benefits

CBD or Cannabidiol is the second most abundant compound in cannabis & Hemp, and has a wide variety of therapeutic benefits. The human body contains an endocannabinoid receptor system (ECS), the internal system that helps achieve homeostasis and maintain a healthy biological balance. CBD is non-psychoactive which means it does not produce a high.

Illuminent CBD can be used for its therapeutic properties without having the intoxicating effects of a psychoactive substance.

CBN Benefits

CBC is non-intoxicating, so it doesn’t produce a euphoric high like THC.

CBN occurs naturally in the Cannabis plant as the plant ages. Over time - and when heated or exposed to oxygen- the Cannabinoid THC converts to CBN. CBN can also be produced from THC that's extracted from Cannabis.

CBN has low affinity for CB1 receptors and therefore a weak effect on the central nervous system and that CBN preferentially binds to CB2 receptors.

CBC Benefits

CBC is non-intoxicating, so it doesn’t produce a euphoric high like THC. The reason it is non-intoxicating is because it binds poorly to CB1 cannabinoid receptors in the brain. But CBC does bind with other receptors in the body, such as the vanilloid receptor 1 (TRPV1) and transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1), both of which are linked to pain perception. When CBC activates these receptors, increased levels of the body’s natural endocannabinoids like anandamide are released.

While CBC definitely has singular benefits, researchers also think that it seems to synergistically work with other cannabinoids, a term known as the entourage effect

ISOLATE

Products

Isolate products also known as THC-Free products, are the phytocannabinoid molecule isolated down by itself. This can be CBG isolate, CBD isolate, CBN isolate and more. Isolate products do not contain other phytocannabinoids or other plant components and are in their purest form with 0% THC.

The Entourage

Effect

The Entourage Effect is a term used to describe how the whole plant has a greater impact than individual parts. There are hundreds of components found in hemp plants including many different phytocannabinoids, flavonoids, terpenes, proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Many of these compounds can interact together and enhance the benefits of the others maximizing the overall effects. This happens as each phytocannabinoid works with different receptor sites within our bodies and when you consume multiple phytocannabinoids and other plant compounds, this activates multiple receptors with in the ECS.

Full Spectrum

Products

Full Spectrum products contain a variety of phytocannabinoids including 0.3% Delta-9 THC, along with the hemp plants natural terpenes, flavonoids, proteins, vitamins, and minerals. These compounds work together synergistically maximizing and strengthening the effectiveness and benefits. Also known as
The Entourage Effect.

Self-Titration

When using phytocannabinoids, everyone has a different experience regarding serving size. There is a process everyone will need to go through to find their “sweet spot”. This process is known as selftitration.

Self-Titration is the process of identifying what strength and serving size is right for you and your needs. Our recommended serving size is provided on every product. It is recommended to either start at the suggested serving size, or a little under and gradually increase the serving until you have reached the desired effect.
During the self-titration period, you may find your body will require more or less than the suggested serving size. Allow yourself 1-2 weeks to complete the self-titration process.
Make sure to be consistent with your Illuminent products! The body responds best to consistent use. Use your products daily for at least 1-3 months to allow your body the time it needs to find its groove and provide you with the results and relief you are looking for.

Terpenes

The cannabis plant can contain up to 200 different terpenes. However, there are roughly 30 terpenes (10 primary and 20 secondary) that are consistently found in high concentrations in most cannabis varieties.
